Nashville Couple Blends Traditional & Contemporary Elements In Hindu Wedding at Lilac Farms
Friday, October 31, 2014
Every now and then, you stumble on a wedding that you have to digest slowly — there are so many beautiful elements to take in and you don’t want to miss a thing.
We felt that way about the wedding of Denise and Neerav (who also goes by Nick). Married in late August at Lilac Farms, the pair wanted to have a seamless blend of a traditional Hindu wedding and an outdoor party. The outcome was nothing short of breathtaking thanks to the couple’s vision and flawless execution by Laurie of Laurie DeAnne Events and a handful of other vendors.
Fall in love with the vibrant colors and details of this week’s featured wedding.

Wedding Details, from the Wedding Planner
Tell us about Denise and Neerav.
I loved planning with Denise and Neerav. They both work in the medical field. They met at Vanderbilt and really got to know each other when they both took a medical mission trip.
They are great together! You can see how much Nick adores Denise and her, him. They both have full careers and I wanted to create the perfect day for this couple!
What was their theme and what inspired it?
I absolutely loved planning and designing this amazing Indian/American wedding!
When I first met this couple I was excited to hear their vision. I listened as they shared that they wanted to have a fun outdoor party. As well, both the bride and the groom wanted to keep the Indian traditions. I was up for the challenge and very excited about bringing their vision to life!
We started with the location. I wanted to pick a venue that would be suitable for an outdoor event but would have an upscale feel. When I took the bride and groom to Lilac Farms they immediately fell in love with it. This was the location that would set the stage and be the drawing board for this beautiful event.
Can you share any special moments or highlights of their wedding day?
Denise looked absolutely stunning in her sari and I loved seeing her and Nick exchange garlands.
She did!! Did they have any special requests or unique challenges that you had to work together to overcome?
When working with families from two different cultures is very important to find a balance. It takes a lot of listening working together. It was a wonderful experience.
Wedding Details, from the Bride
How would you describe your style as a couple?
After we decided that we would have a traditional Hindu wedding, I knew I wanted the entire event to be colorful. I love the color combination of pink and orange and knew it would represent the beautiful colors in the Indian culture and represent spring.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
Laurie Hardman was my wedding planner and took care of everything. You will have to ask her for the names of vendors. I let her handle everything and very glad that I did :). Between Laurie and the florist, the wedding and reception were unbelievable!!!!
Tell us about the change of clothes from your sari to bridal gown.
Nick went to India last spring and he picked our outfits for the wedding. We changed clothes for the reception but wanted to be a little more casual and comfortable. Nick wore a suit from J Crew. My dress was from Olia Zavozina.
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
If I could go back and change anything, I would stress less about the details prior to the wedding. I hired a great wedding planner and she made my life so much easier but for some reason I would still stress about the details. I wish I would have just enjoyed the moment more and let her do her job.
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning? Advice for new brides.
Enjoy the moment!! The day goes by so fast so make sure you take time to enjoy each other and the loved ones who traveled so far to be with you. Also, spend the money on a good band. The entertainment sets the tone for the event so try to cut cost in other places so you can pay for a quality band.
